my .02$

i have used a few vcds that i purchased on ebay, most of them were whats
caled screeners or movies video taped off of a movie screen so the quality
was crap, but hte few proffessional ones i have are good quality somehwhere
between a vhs tape and a video disk.

i use a shareware program called vcd viewer from the ever useful kagi
software, i dloaded it from download.com. it does full screen and all the
goodies and automatically loads a movie when you put one in and run the
program.

some of the quality difference between playing on your mac and on
your tv is due to the lores-ness of your tv, a computer monitor is crisper
and has a better resolution so it looks much better. with the new toast you
can save quicktime movies as vcd files to be played on your mac or your tv
which is really cool (it takes a long time to convert but...)

i hope that is somewhat helpful, they are fun little toys that last
longer than video tape and arent much better in quality than video so dont
let anyone charge you an arm and a leg for any of them, but you can find
some really cool asian released ones on ebay that never make it out heree in
the US, like hte simpsons and hte star wars trilogy etc.

beware of those screener movies though, its neat to see a movie that
ius still out at the theater but ht equality is laughable, the sound and
color are usually poor, and i have seen some where a part of the screen is
chopped off, and even have one where someone gets up in hte middle of the
movie to goto the bathroom or something, its funny, but can also be very
annoying, my friends dont even bother watching them. 8)
