A few months ago, I did the memory-check-disable thing, and was not
able to access the memory control panel after that. It went through
the motions of opening, but the CP's window never showed. It was
several weeks before I figured out that trashing the Memory
Preferences cured the problem--and brought the prefs back to
default--it simply wasn't a big deal until I added a big chunk of
memory, and wanted to turn VM off. I just did it again, with no
problems, and gained a second or three in the startup. (OS 8.6)
Just a FYI thing, in case anyone has the same problem.
