When you installed OSX, did you select the option to erase the disk 
before the install?  The  XPostFacto installation instructions warn 
against doing that, and the result of doing it looks pretty much like 
what you described (screen full of words). If that's what you did, boot 
back into OS9 and select 'Reinstall Bootx' and 'Reinstall Extensions' 
from the Advanced menu in XPostFacto.
