Hi listers,
A couple of weeks ago I started having problems with Netscape or
Eudora and other apps
freezing the system when I would try to use the menu to shut down. I
trashed a lot of prefs files and that seemed to help for a while but the
problem came and went and finally and additional symptom cropped up.
At those and other times my startup drive would make a loud click and the
disk would stop. Shutting down while the display still was on screen. The
freeze became unpredictable. And I had no access to the drive at all for a
while tonight. It would not mount or even spin up. I thought for a while
it died.
Out of desparation I turned the power off and taking some of my own
advice from a few weeks ago I
slipped the SCSI connector out of it's position. That made it spin up but
not mount. I repeated unplugging it
and the drive came to life. Here in Ohio the weather is getting warmer
and more humid indoors.
Whether it is the humidity or temperature that caused the connector problem
I can only guess.
But, the SCSI signal seems to be getting through now. Hopefully this ends
the frequent freeze ups.
Time will tell.
If this helps anyone else with similar problems please let me know
offlist. This is for future reference.
Adrian
