Depends what you do with your computer. Video cards provide 2D or 3D
accelleration or both. I've got a 12Meg Voodoo 2 Game Wizard that only
kicks in when 3D accelleration is needed. I believe my processor is whats
limiting my usage. I get the same fps in Unreal Tournament with my V2,
V3/2000 or V5 or the differences are so small they are not worth mentioning.
If you play no games that require 3D accelleration you might not need one.

The other thing that some video cards can do is speed up 2D, ie windows
scrolling, screen redraws in Photoshop, PageMaker, or Freehand 10 with placed
Tiffs. EPS's have the preview so they don't usually slow down a page layout
program but when you've got 50 or 60 megs of tiffs in a document it chugs
things down on a G3 450/1M, though not noticably on a G4/733. If you do
much design work you should have a good video card not just one that can
support the amount of colors you need at your chosen screen size to help in
these cases. I moved my V3/2000 and V5 to machines that I do graphic work on
because they provide 2D accelleration.

Also web browser screens scroll quicker and generally the machine "feels"
quicker with a video card. I'm typing this on a 7200 which I frackenmac'ed
into a 7300/G3 300/1M and with the video card I can't tell much difference
between it and my machines at work. Also if you have a 6500 first thing you
should do is get a Voodoo 3/2000 or 3000 because I've found video on that
particular unit to be unbearably slow in comparison to other PowerMac's I've
had and I've had a few :D.
