Richard,
I too have a 1220S on my Mac with 7600mobo. Make sure all
cable connectors and ports are thoroughly clean and tight. Use electronic
cleaner if necessary. You may have to repeat the process. You may also
need to check the continuity of the cable itself. Also wiggle the cable
with the power on to see if the is a bad wire .
Try starting the Mac with the scanner plugged in. If that fails
try plugging it in after starting the computer. My Mac often likes to be
started first for some reason.
Make sure the Umax software is all in the right place. Try using
Photoshop or PhotoDeluxe to access the scanner.
