Personally, I haven't liked HP printers since I once owned a Stylewriter 550C biggest POS I ever owned. I hope that they have improved considerably (they needed to). But a USB card is a great addition to any PCI Mac. Like another lister wrote, you will need OS 8.6 or later, I weighed my options and went for an investment in system 9.1. Even so, you will need to download a USB driver accurately mentioned by another lister as USB Card Support 1.4.1.smi I didn't have any luck dl'ing it from Apple's site, and when I mentioned this to the list I received it in an email from a couple of listers off list. It was also mentioned that OS 9.2.2 has it included, but I understand that OS 9.2.2 comes with new Power Macs along with OS X. My advice to you would be to have a min of 64 Mb of RAM, an anti-static wrist strap (for working inside your computer) and the purchase of the USB card (for MAC) and the file "USB Card Support 1.4.1.smi" from Apple, or one of us listers that has it. If you're going to upgrade your system software, it more or less depends whether you use many older programs that would likely be more compatible with 8.6 than 9.x. I do suggest that if you are going to go the 9.x route that you consider a minimum of 9.1 as I understand there were 4 revisions of 9.0 due to bug issues. 128 Mb of RAM works for me, as I exceed 64 Mb with opened programs (virtual memory off) but have yet to see it go beyond 128 with what I use it with.
