I've noticed that after about an hour of use, the power supply fan on my 7600/G3 300/232 speeds up whenever I do any thing remotely processor intensive, almost like someone's blipping the gas pedal. It even happens sometimes when I move the mouse.
Is this normal? Are there any warning signs of a failing power supply? I worry that either the power supply is starting to fail or that the machine is overheating with its upgraded processor, 2 PCI cards (1 USB, 1 sound card), 2 7200 rpm hard disks and internal CD-RW drive. The XLR8 control panel reports a CPU temperature of 36deg C - 96deg F - which doesn't sound too bad. I could swap all of these components into a 9500 I have - would that machine allow better cooling?
