Anyways, IS there a specific ROM SIMM for the 9500 family?

Most definitely.

The 9500 series was made in these models:

1) "Windsurfer", an engineering prototype for six-slot PCI Macs (including
the 9500, 9600 and possibly also the Apple Network Server), ROM SIMM
required, not a true 9500 ROM but also an engineering prototype, place for
four mask-programmed ROM chips on the motherboard but these are not stuffed,
does not have CUDA switch,

2) "Tsunami", first production version, ROM SIMM required (Apple part number
341-0758), true 9500 ROM, place for four mask-programmed ROM chips on the
motherboard but these are not stuffed, has CUDA switch, and

3) "Tsunami w/ROM", second (and final) production version, ROM SIMM not
required but ROM SIMM socket is provided for future upgrades, true 9500 ROM,
four ROM chips soldered to the motherboard, has CUDA switch.

If anyone is interested in a "Windsurfer" motherboard, I have one available,
and it would be suitable for a static (nonfunctional) display. Contact me
off-List, otherwise it is likely to show up on e-bone.

Peter.
