Restart and try the programs. If there is still a problem, try selecting the Extension set "OS 8.6 Base". If in either case the problem goes away you'll know that a control panel or an Extension is your stumbling block. Next - Select "OS 8.6 All" (if that one worked for you) and choose "Duplicate Set" Then when prompted rename it "Post Application Crash" or something. Then start adding extensions (and CPs) back one or two or three at a time, restarting. If the problem re-appears then you'll know where to look and what to turn off, trash, replace whatever.
