I'd bet its your 9600.

My Mach5 8600/300, and my 8500 and 9500 are rock solid with VST cards.

And, I've operated as many as FOUR VST cards on my 9500 (along with the 
9500's basic SCSI CD-ROM and SCSI hard drives).
