OK Guys,

Hardware:

6400/200 bone stock except for a Western Digital 20 gig disk and a
USB card. (Rarely used)

56 megs of ram and OS 8.1.

Has been flawless for years (until now). Mostly does ClarisWorks and
is a second E-mail box. It doesn't work very hard.

And then this:

Booted the machine the other day and noticed the items (aliases) I
have in the Startup folder didn't start.

Hmmmm.....

Restart....same result.

??????

Delete aliases, recreate and replace in Startup folder. Same result.

Amused at this point. Never seen this before.

Just for grins, rebuild desktop with TechTool. No change.

You don't say......

Run Norton: No problems found.

OK........

At this point, not so amused....starting to be a labor and I have things to do.

I might point out that other than the non-functioning Startup folder
items, machine still works just fine, no other problems.

Still.......it's like a rattle under the dash and it's driving me to
distraction.

So (guessing and taking shots in the dark at this point), I grab
personal back up CD and replace one at a time:

1) Finder.....No change.

2) System file.....No change.

Complete Preferences folder.....No change.

When the Finder comes up, it hesitates just for a second like it's
going to launch the items in the Startup folder and then does
nothing. Machine functions normally. The applications connected to
the aliases in the Startup folder are also functioning when I launch
them normally. Aliases work when double clicked on.

Any ideas anyone? Pickle, you like this kinda Sherlock Holmes
nonsense, ever run into this before?

Thanks in advance,

Cobey
