iPhoto ONLY works in OS X.1 so, if you can get OS X.1 running on your 5400
AND the USB works on it AND your digital camera is supported by iPhoto then
yes it should theoretically work (however it would probably be sloooow -
unless you've suped up the machine to a G4).
