If I recall correctly, I think I wrote that if converting from a standard
HFS or HFS+ disk, run Plus Maker, then install Optimizer, but I was not
recalling correctly. Alsoft has so many little utilities! :)

I meant to write that I then install PLUS MAXIMIZER as well as the Disk
Warrior EXTENSIONS.

The PLUS MAKER utility and then the PLUS MAXIMIZER extension is a utility
that enables HFS+ disks to record in 4k increments, thus reducing the amount
of wasted space, certainly over standard HFS, and yes, even over standard
HFS+, which via the Apple set up records in larger chunks. Use of
Plus-Maker converts HFS and standard HFS+ disks into 4k blocks, but utterly
fragments the disk in the process.

After using it, I highly recommend then adding the PLUS MAXIMIZER extension,
then run Disk Warrior to reset the directory. You certainly can run PLUS
OPTIMIZER then, but I found PLUS OPTIMIZER has a problem with what it calls
imbedded files, whereas TTP optimization does not. Therefore, then run
TechTool optimization (FROM THE TTP 3 DISK - can't be done from a loaded
version on the disk or partition to be worked upon, although both PO and
TTP3 O installed will optimize partitions just fine. I always install the
programs on at least 2 partitions, and that way all partitions may be worked
upon) to restring the blocks in contiguous portions (this will take a
LOOOONG time--could be a day on large drives filled with data), then run the
TechTool directory optimization to match the TechTool restring.

Though time consuming, I use the time to work on other projects. Norton is
quicker because it does not operate in the same manner as Techtool, but I
find the TechTool resets to be far more useful, i.e. actual work speed is
faster after TechTool resets and video edit and playback is less inclined to
hiccups.
