Hi. Hold down the "c" key while booting until you see the disk icon. From there you can go into Drive Setup and format your HD. A low level format and zeroing out all data may be a good idea, especially if the HD is from another system. Then open the 8.5 installer. With OS 8.5 installed you can then download the 8.6 update from Apple, which many agree is a significant improvement over 8.5.
