Hi, I bought a PC PowerDomain Adaptec 2940UW card as advised here that I flashed with the 4.1 firmware utility and it works (thanks, Mike).
The card can run drives in the ultra-wide mode - 40 MB/s max. in the synchronous mode - but I am having the following problem : On start up, according to the PowerDomain Control Utility, the hard disk on the card SCSI bus appears as "asynch" - for asynchronous mode. Quickbench shows read ad write rates around 7 MB/s. If I subsequently open the Atto ExpressProTools utility (v 2.7 or 2.8), and run a benchmark test on the same drive, it shows transfer rates around 20 MB/s. Then turning back to the PowerDomain Control utility, rescanning the bus shows my drive at "20 MHz" (or 40 MB/s) - that's the synhronous mode. Now QuickBench shows read and write rates around 15 MB/s. If I restart the computer, I get the preceding situation. It's like the synchronous mode is allowed when the ExpressproTools scans the SCSI buses or something. Any ideas on how to stay in the synchronous mode on start up ? My configuration : 6500/G3 + ACARD IDE -> SCSI bridge + WD hard drive, connnected to the Adaptec card. Thierry -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
