This card caught my attention when it was first anounced.....and the estimated
retail price was listed as $800.00 back then, about three months ago. I was
pleasantly surprised to see them on sale for considerably less but also
surprised that Sonnet has NO BENCHMARK info on their site to show how this
card compares to theur 450 Mhz G4 and 500 Mhz G3 cards.
Mine cost about $380.00 ($600.00 Canadian) from Accurate Tech in Toronto,
Canada, on Sept 13th.
So far still no benchmarks except for one short piece on one of the Mac Tech
sites.
So far the biggest impact the 800 Mhz G4 PCI card has had has been to drive
the prices of the other PCI G3 and G4 cards DOWN on the Sonnet site and on
eBay.
It is an unusual card in many ways. Before you buy one do a search for the
Motorola 7455 SOI (Silicon on Insulator) Apollo 6 800 Mhz processor to find
out what an amazing piece of technology this thing is.
Wonderful.
I miss those little dialog boxes on the screen when the Mac tells me what it
is its doing....
