OSX works quite well on some older machines. OSX 10.1 does not work with a 601 processor, and 10.2 does not(?) with a 604, but all of these machines work fine with a G3 or G4 upgrade. (relatively cheap nowadays...even Sonnet's 800 MHz one is down to $375 or so.)
