Bill, I have a 6400 and a 6500. Would agree w/ Alan, the easiest/lower cost upgrade is changing out the OEM IDE drive. I put a Quantum 10 GB in the 6400 3 years ago. Have a Western Digital 17 GB in the 6500, tho I've read some negative reports in general about WD, this drive is 2-3 years old ... Getting to the internal IDE drive is not too difficult, go to:
http://www.zone6400.com/ Good pictures/instructions, Great site for info on 6400, 6500, and the like. Does your 6500 have a Zip drive in the top bay ? If not, you can also put a SCSI drive in there. There is a ribbon cable w/ two 50 pin connectors feeding up to the CD ROM drive and Zip drive. You would need a disk sled to mount the drive.( often selling on the swaplist ) Usually internal SCSI is faster, but I think because 6400/6500 were set up for CD/Zip on internal SCSI, their external SCSI is faster. I may be wrong there ... > From: Bill Arnold <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Reply-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (PCI PowerMacs) > Date: Thu, 10 Oct 2002 09:57:16 -0500 > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (PCI PowerMacs) > Subject: 6500 HD upgrade? > > What is the best type of drive for my 6500 as an upgrade in size?
