most 50-pin will be compatible (unless you have a 68pin adapter)
I think most SCSI-1 and SCSI-2 are as well (I recently bought an IBM UltraStar SCSI-2 
72RPM for my 8500/150)
you need a software utility to format a third party drive like FWB
