Peter & others--

The RAM does seem to be the problem--I started by pulling all 8 sticks,
replacing with 2 known good and adding incrementally. The "hang" problem
went away--for a while. Then I switched the monitoor to the 3dfx card and
again had problems. Moved the monitor back and went back thru the RAM
exercise with good results. I ended up pulling the 3dfx and putting it in a
different box where it is doing OK so far.

The 8600 seems to be doing well now--Must have a problem with the RAM?? I,m
still not sure.

John in Tucson--thanks for the help!
