I had no problem with the 68 pin 18 Gig Maxtor drive I bought last week at 
Fry's. I've never found any problem using a 50 pin to 68 pin convertors. 
Apples formatting tools worked just fine. You will need an external LVD 
terminator though, if it's an LVD drive.
