It shouldn't be a problem. You can even use two volumes (partitions) on the same hard drive. However, if the OS 9.1 disk is formatted with HFS+(Mac OS Extended format), you won't be able to read it when you start up from 8.0. For that and other reasons, you should probably upgrade 8.0 to 8.1.
