In reply to my problem:
Netscape Communicator 4.8 recently has frequently been crashing
with a Netscape ERROR Type 3 when I'm on the net and innocently
checking news stories.
       PM6500/250 128MB memory OS 8.1
       Netscape Communicator 4.8

Gail,
I looked up Type 3 error at:
<http://www.macinstein.com/Errors_Search.cfm>
and all it said was "Illegal Instruction"......

So you'll have to place your computer under
a citizen's arrest until the police arrive. ;)

DONE JOE!

In the sub listing that appears click on Cache. There should be buttons
in there to clear the memory cache and to clear the disk cache."

Bruce, Netscape Communicator 4.8 Preferences has a "disk
cache" which I empty and trash regularly BUT it does not have
a second cache...nothing called the "memory cache"...so what
               would you be referring to?

Bruce *Where* is the memory cache? and how do you clear it?
I've even tried to set my disk cache to "zero" and that didn't help
              either.

instruction for the processor (and/or ROM hook?) that doesn't actually exist. You'll
occasionally see this if you try to run PPC software on a 68k, though it
usually exits more gracefully.
If it does it seemingly at random, it's probably something corrupted
would be my guess. Bad prefs or application."

             Scott -- I Re-installed Netscape Comm 4.8...let's see.

Perhaps a another lister can explain what this really means.

Adrian...it's not a Mac ERROR...it's a Netscape ERROR isn't it?

I did recently get a MAC BOMB # 10 while I was IN Netscape...what was that?
Entering a number 10 into that website search I get: " Error Line 1111 "
[which means nothing to me !]

        * Well Kyle, I Trashed my Finder preferences and rebuilt my desktop.

I'll write the forum back with the results.

Thanks,
