The HD in my own 6500 CROAKED last week.
It was the original 4 gig Western Digital Caviar. I took along the DEAD drive to Futureshop this afternoon because they have an advertisement for Western Digital 40 gig drives, $169.00 Canadian with a $30.00 store discount and a $30.00 manufacturers discount ....for a grand total of $109. Canadian....about $66.00 U.S. I handed the kid at the Computer Accessories counter the drive and tsaid I wanted a replacement and he looked at it............and one of the other salespersons said out loud to him, "Its a hard drive." I guess he'd never seen one before that wasn't in a big cardboard box. THAT was worth the price of admission !!! Of course they didn't have any in stock and suggested that I should go home and order it off the internet if I really wanted it. I went to BestByte and bought a Western Digital 5400 rpm WD400 IDE drive for $113.00...about $70.00 U.S. Thatr thing is so quiet I can't even tell its spinning . Anyway, the 40 gig drive is in my 6500 right now and the little bar is going accross the screen to indicate that OS8.6 is installing on the Curley partition. All done. Time to put 9.1 on the Larry partition. M -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
