My very easiest solution is as follows:
Give up Outlook and install Eudora, eudora finds and imports all kinds of mail with rapid bliss ! If you were using netscape before you just manually move over the netscape files in preferences to the eudora folder and VOILA it becomes eudora mailboxes. Eudora never crashes and saves all files as text. Only drawback is you can not that easily colour the background of a mail, or change the text colour.
