It's hard to tell, though it certainly should.

I didn't start using this system exclusively under OS X until I also 
got a Radeon video card and OS X 10.2.  I ran 10.1 on it, and it was 
definitely slower.  Going from 10.1 to 10.2 + Radeon was like getting a 
faster computer.
