I don't know if Tech Tool has it but Norton Utilities certainly does, however the new Norton (version 7, I think) does not work with OS older than 10. So you'll need something older, you may find a cheaper & older version in eBay. Most of the times norton will do a great job on repairing problems with file corruptions and such. Freezes are not mostly caused by hardware unless something is broken or damaged. Corrupted files, Extent B-tree structure or volume bitmap errors will very likely do so. DO NOT trust Disk First Aid, it is not as good as it should be! Things you can try for free: •Rebuild the desktop by holding the Apple key & Option key before the finder comes up. You can also do it by opening any application, switch to the finder, force quit the finder, then quit the application while holding those two keys, the mac will ask you if you want to rebuild the desktop, answer "yes". I recommend after doing so you restart the mac. There is also a freeware program (look in tucows!) that erases the desktop file and then makes a new one rather than "rebuilding it on an old structure" (I heard Tech Tool ($) can do it and save your comments on the way). •To defragment the disk without the need of software manually copy the files/folders into another (NOT the harddrive) (or if you have different partitions you can do it in one), erase it and put everything back in, I believe that's the best thing cause you're taking care of desktop files, corrupted unused space, virtual memory files and such. Also please remember to erase the browser cache files often if you can, the program keeps erasing the oldest ones and adding new ones all the time.
