Hell no! I've run OS 9.1 off a 8500/120 (and it felt faster than OS 8.1 -
figure that one out) and I've seen plenty of 603e-based systems (5x00/6x00)
running it aswell. Have at least 128MB, preferably more if you can (you
can't in a 5x00, but a 7500 can) and you'll be fine. Run virtual memory if
you absolutely have to - I leave it off.
