Just how many hard disks can the 9600's 390W power supply (I don't have a
Mach5 version) handle?

It was designed to power the 9600 mobo, twelve 128 MB FPM/EDO sticks (1.5 GB
total) and seven drives, one of which is the floppy (powered by the mobo
itself) and one of which is the CD-ROM (powered by the PSU).

So, that makes five hard drives, including the basic hard drive, one of which
must be 1" and the others may be 1.6" or 1".

The 9600 was designed back in the days of 30+ watt 1.6" high hard drives
(exception for the basic hard drive, which must be 1" high).

However, to install all five hard drives, you're going to have to give up the
bottom PCI slot, due to space constraints.
