Mart, maybe I missed something here ...?? This may sound clunky but I've used it often, sooooo
Open your current startup disk ... Go File, go "new folder" Name the new untitled folder "Icons" Open "Icons" Go File, go new folder, 3-4 times Go to your System 7 folder/files and click once (highlight) the folder/file w/Icon you desire to keep. Go File, go Get Info (or Command i) Tab until the icon in Info window (upper left) has a box around it ... Go Command c (copy ... will be on the clipboard) Go to new folder *Icons*, should be open, highlight any one of the "untitled folders" Go command i , or go File ... Get Info Tab until the icon (upper left) has a box yada, yada Command v (paste)... That folder now carries the Icon, You get the drill ?? Repeat as needed to save Icons THEN to put onto 8.5 stuff ... Untitled folder, highlight, info, tab, copy ... Desired folder/file, highlight, info, tab, PASTE ... Prolly 95+% works, remember some obscure problem, HTH ... Jerry Subject: Re: Icon change in OS 8.5 I've got a question: I wanted to have some system 7 appearance back om my OS 8.5 7300, so I made a copy of the System file and started replacing icons (of folders etc) in ResEdit. When done, I put it back in place and restarted. No changes!! Then I did the same to the ROM file, and again, after restart, no changes in the icons. Any idea what I did wrong? -mart > > Heok replied: >> You can try Icon Tools (available as shareware on Versiontracker).
