Why is there a huge price difference between various brands of FireWire cards? Is there anything I will be missing by getting one of the cheaper cards? Right now all I need is something to replace the OrangeMicro card in my PM 8500/G3, that destroyed all the data on my new FW hard drive. But, perhaps I should also be considering future potential uses, not just the HD.
I had read that cards based on the Lucent ChipSet were the most reliable, so I had ordered an OWC 3-Port Card with Lucent ChipSet, (OWCLUCT5X), but evidently that card is no longer available. OWC has substituted a MacAlly 3-port card but the specs for that card say nothing about it being OHCI compliant. Any advice? Maaki -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
