My question is, I'm crowding myself out here with computers and monitors and when I saw that the LaserWriter is a 1988 model, I started to wonder if it was all worth the sacrifice of space ... >> I haven't been without one or more LaserWriter(s) for a looooong time. At least since PS L1 V38.0 on the original LaserWriter (non-Plus). I now use a Pro 630 (with aftermarket internal hard disk) and a 16/600-J (Japanese version with standard extra RAM and internal hard disk). The LW+ and the LWII have the lowest total cost per page of any output device. Period. I'll likely never replace my LaserWriters. 1988 was the last year for the original LaserWriter, and perhaps the first year for the LaserWriter II. Work fine ... last long time. Repair parts, which are seldom needed, are very easy to get, and are quite cheap. If you can manage to snag a IIg board for your LWII, then you'll get Ethernet for printing. I haven't used Localtalk at all ... since I got my printers, computers and router to all talk together. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
