Tim said this was off topic but it begs an little help even from this
list. (don't we use CDs in PowerMacs) I do.

Tim was right, the label has nothing to do with anything inside what
your computer reads or understands. It's there for human data eye input
only. Remove the lable and the optical reader inside the machine could
care less.

If your machine is having trouble reading the CDs or DVDs it may be an
internal reader problem and remember not all CDs or DVDs are compatible
with all machines. IF..., your machine read the disk and now it doesn't
it may be severely scratched. You may polish it out with toothpaste and
your finger.

I have a CD missing a silver dollar size chunk out of one side. My CD
player was able to take all the information off this disk and make a new
one. Obviously the data was NOT in the part missing. I am running an old
8 speed burner. DO NOT try this in one of those high speed machines or
you would have pieces of disk everywhere and a destroyed machine.

Two notes about DVD CD burners and ROM. The old slow ones do not have
the read problems with scratched or dented disks the new fast machines
do. Also, magnetic storage degrades over time. Laser storage will not
unless heated. All your old floppies, eight tracks, cassetts, reel to
reel, and wire storage should be converted to DVD if possible.
always,
