when i took over my brther in law's 6360 on thanksgiving, he asked me to please go thru everything on the hard drive and get rid of everything personal that he had left stored on it. i assured him I would. I have done this before on a IIfx, opening files and dragging everything that was obviously personal information or storage left by the previous owner to the trash and deleting it permanentlyat the end of the task. in that instance, it was resume letters and names in his Contact Now address book. In this case, I want to be absolutely sure I do right by him, because he is a hollywood screenwriter, and for copyright reasons and his own emotional reasons, I want to be sure I find everything that ought not fall into strange hands, and really wipe out its existence for him. are there hidden files need to be aware of that won't show up for my eyes, as I am trying to do this manually? Is there something can use to help me in my task?
the last problem has me poised on the cusp of a potential worry, unless my memory fails me from the last time i did this. He named his hard drive something gothic and totally unlike my mindset. i think he called it 'house of blood' or something ghastly like that. I would want to rename the hard drive to something more innoccuous, but I halted in midflight, wondering if changing the name of the hard drive would foul up the machines ability to find files. you know, give it an identity crisis or totally confound me later if i missed something hidden somewhere and later networked this machine to my others. somebody calm me down, here, and walk me thru the moment till I relax and remember how this works. this is a magnificent machine, and i don't want to screw it up at the beginning, just doing housekeeping in preparation to start up my time witih it. janet http://community.webtv.net/mensabrains/BADCODE -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
