I'm pretty sure it was probably *somewhere* here on this List, recently, that I saw the hint about Type 25 errors, to try simply giving the app more memory and see if that helps.
I hadn't known that - I was under some mis-impression that Type 25 was strictly related to some really complex incurable system- or memory-error, and that only the Type 10 or 11 (I forget which) were the not-enough-RAM errors... Well, I was wrong. One of my favorite little utility apps has consistently refused to run on my OS 8.1 partition, although it has always worked quite well under 7.5.5 and earlier, and I'd gloomily assumed that it was just incompatible with 8.1, or that it didn't play well with Kaleidoscope (used with 8.1 only), and I'd written it off as being unusable. However, I finally got around to trying what I'd read about raising the memory, and guess what. That app works now! I am very happy about that. I raised both the "minimum" and "preferred" to the same number - was a mere 40 K, but now is happily running at 400 - maybe didn't need to raise it *that* far, but I figured what the heck... Anyway, I'm sure glad I saw that message about Type 25 and raising the app's allocated memory - I don't know who the author was because I don't have the original email anymore, but whoever you are, I very much appreciate the info - a million thanks! - Jamie Marie (re previous problem, battery didn't cure it nor did the time-delay CP (with the 8600 monitor thing) but have some other things to try meanwhile.
