The problem your having gives me the indication that there is a cold solder
joint on the circuit board of the monitor. As electronic boards age,
sometimes because of the heating and cooling of the circuit boards, the
solder pulls away from the leads of electronic parts. If you find someone
with general electronics knowledge, they can look very closely and probably
find one of the leads sticking through the bottom of the circuit board that
shows a tiny circle around the lead. Just have them resolder it and it will
be fixed. Make sure that it's someone that knows how to handle the dangerous
voltages in the monitor, even when it's un-plugged.
