Hmm...I've heard that running a slow CD-ROM on a fast bus might slow
things down before...I have a 7600/180 in the case of a 7200, & it only
has 1 internal SCSI ribbon, as per usual in the 7200 with its single, 5 megabit
bus, but with the 7600 mobo I have a choice of internal & external
connectors for it. It also has a 4x CD, a legacy of the 7200 prior to the
upgrade.
I have it plugged into the internal bus now; would I be better off if I
got a second ribbon & somehow wound it up into the drive bays? (...But I
don't see exactly how...there only seems to be only 1 slot for a ribbon to go
up into the metal casing of the drive housing & around the PSU.)
Or is a 4x just fast enough not to drag down the performance of a 10 Mbit
bus? (I suppose I could get a faster CD-ROM -- or take out the CD & add an
external 1. Or cut another hole in the metal...not sure I could do that
very skillfully...)
