It ought to. IIRC all apple did to make those 'servers' out of their desktop or MT systems was put in a certain amount of memory and a big SCSI hard drive. Most of it was the included AppleShare stuff. The last purpose-built servers they had were back in the Quadra days (until the advent of the X-serve).
