I know this much, charles: CD ROM readers, music or data, use a stronger infra red laser to read with than do CD R's or CD RW's..if your reader is just going to be reading manufactured CD's of music or data, like a discman or a gameing box,the laser in it is going to be reading with a stronger beam.. CD R and CDRW read with a comparitively 'lighter' beam, and unless the CD reader says it readis CDR's and CD RW's on the label, it won't match up and play. the lasers are different.
commercially produced CD's have a more reflective foil vapor layer backing the pitting, which i beleive reflects the beam more powerfully and can 'stand up to' the stonger laser shining on it and send it back up into the reader. the CD R's and RW's i beleive are a more delicate operation since the burned layer isn't foil vapor backed, doesn't reflect back like commercially backed ones, and i beleive the stronger laser of a CD ROM reader goes right thru the pitting and fails to reflect back up into the detector. the gentler, calibrated laser for CDR"S and CDRW is targeted to reflect from the pitting layer in the medium used in those discs. I have a music CDR that won't play in my regular CD player but will play in my son's stereo which says on the label is calibrated for them. janet http://community.webtv.net/mensabrains/BADCODE -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
