Thank you, I thought maybe some resource is not set to shade this icon when used as a drive icon. The icon works fine as a normal folder icon and does nothing special except look nicer. Failing a quick search through resedit (I have no idea without instruction ) does anyone have a favorite icon program that does the task? Or a site where I might learn something about Resedit? I thought the desktop rebuild would fix it, since it hasn't does that point to a problem with the icon I chose to use? Really hoped I was just cutting and pasting a image rather than changing anything. So many visual options and third party frills with computers can be such time-wasters. . . especially when the time spent is compounded by having to run maintenance routines to keep the Finder happy. Thanks for the warning Terry, I generally keep it clean and sparten with very few custom icons and generally only folders I've made.
