Hello,

I just D/Led More About This Macintosh (aka MATM) version 1.5.

More About This Macintosh reports "Fragmented RAM" and suggests a
restart to correct it; The message from More About This Macintosh is
sometimes the same after restarting the Power Macintosh.

======================
Hardware and OS:

This machine is an upgraded APPLE Power Macintosh 7600:

a) Running mostly Mac OS 8.6 (with CarbonLib 1.6 added), and sometimes
Mac OS 9.0.4 (with CarbonLib 1.6 added); I've noted that this 7600 runs
faster under Mac OS 8.6 than Mac OS 9.0.4 or Mac OS 9.1...

b) A 400 MHz Newer Technology MAXpowr G4 CPU upgrade (using MAXpowr
Control Panel and Extension version 2.0.5 by Ben Mickaelian);

c) Two 18 GIG Internal SCSI Hard Disks purchased from La Cie (Hard Disk
Type: SEAGATE ST318417N Version: 0105); formatted HFS+;

d) 512 MB RAM (60ns): Four Velocity Upgrades 128 MB DIMM modules
(Velocity Upgrades Part Number: VM-165N1664AB6S). The interleaved RAM is
in slots: A3, A4,
B3 & B4. Controller: Hammerhead; Virtual Memory is off;

e) An ATI Radeon PCI Mac Edition with 32 MB of RAM (4 MB VRAM onboard;
not being used currently);

f) A D-Link Fast 10/100 T base PCI Ethernet card (with RealTek RTL8139x
{version 3.00} Mac driver);

g) A Kensington ADB Two-Button Mouse - Model 64205 (using Kensington
MouseWorks version 5.7).

======================

This More About This Macintosh report leads me to inquire:

1) Is there any detailed information available on fragmented RAM under
Mac OS, including ways to deal with the issues?

2) Are there any known issues with G3 and/or G4 CPU upgrades and
fragmented RAM?

3) Are there any known issues with Velocity Upgrades 128 MB DIMM modules
and G3 and/or G4 CPU upgrades?

4) Are there any known problems with Velocity Upgrades 128 MB DIMM
modules causing fragmented RAM issues?

5) Could something software-wise be loading (or loading partly and
quiting. etc.) during startup that causes any fragmented RAM issues
under Mac OS?
