thanks for taking the time to think about it and give me your
experience. I'm not remotely considering going to OS X, tho. I have 6
macs running in classic OS and I'm just getting started learning macs,
and OS X is like the next Bardo for me. {bardo=tibetan book of the dead,
the levels you go up or down thru in the afterworld after you die] I'm
sticking in OS 7 thru 9 till i get good.
I'm frantically combing back thru my bookmarked sites, right now,
looking for a page i read yesterday with motherboard architechture on
it. haven't relocated it yet, driving me nuts. got both this PC fair and
an eBay offer hammering at my head that i have to find answers for,
tonight!
auuughhh!
would you know--?--the 8500 has 8 RAM slots on the board and no onboard
attached RAM. a guy gave me two RAM modules off an 8500 board. they
would physicaly fit in my MoBo RAM slots, but I am trying to mentally
figure out if what's on my board already has more than they would or if
one of them would help my board go up.
i just had the specs page at apple and didnt print it. crap. i should
have. i could do the math faster.
pressure!pressure!pressure!
this eBay guy took apart a powermac and didnt know anything about them.
he tossed the faceplate so he doesnt even know what model he took apart.
but the mobo looks like mine and the cd rom, and HD have those Fox
connectors mine has. and he removed a module that has a coax nipple on
the back plate, which i am pretty sure would go in the back bay on mine
for video. maddening. why do people do these things!?!?!?!?! now i have
to do back research to figure out if his original machine is in the same
compatible parts family as mine!!!!!
see you on the list. thanks again.
