The only thing I have against the 4 port cards is that if you are using devices that draw power from the card, it is possible to overtax the PCI slot with excessive power demands. If you use externally powered USB devices, (I tie everything through powered hubs, which I know is overkill) so that only the USB signal lines are needed, there is no problem.
