Sometimes (usually when my wife needs to print somethimg right NOW!) My PowerCenter 180, OS 9.1, pops up this warning window: "Unable to Print. The Serial Port is in use by another Application..." It also tells me to quit the other app(s) and try again. This NEVER works, even with all other apps off, including those that don't use the Serial port. Have tried about everything to make this intermittant problem go away permanently. Late last night finally got printer LW300LS to go after restarting. Same problem trying to use SW1200. Have zapped pram, rebuilt desktop, run Norton SystemWorks, DiskWarrier, no change. Sometimes a restart solves it for a few days or weeks, but problem keeps returning. In the last couple of years it seems to hapen about once a month, and I've had exactly the same problem with my 7100 with both OS8.1 and 9.1. Appletalk is off, Chooser seems OK, can't find any applicable info in the Apple database.Does the same thing in Word 5.1a, SimpleTalk, Eudora, whatever. Computer not on a network. My wife is starting to believe her friends who tell her to solve this problem by getting a Dell.(Arrrghh!) What am I missing?
