I have seen in numrous mac books the moment they take to stress that it is pronounced pea- ram. and like wise, VRAM is pronoucned vee ram, SDRAM is ess dee ram, SG RAM is ess gee ram, and so on. the term 'RAM is important unto itself, and is spoken separately from the letters distinguishing its kind.
