Hi Janet, SCSI termination is done to stop the SCSI signals from bouncing (reflecting) around, inside the loooong SCSI cables. The built-in SCSI bus in your Mac is terminated at one end, on the mother board. If you have nothing plugged into it, then there is no need for a 2nd termination - IOW, you DO NOT need to put an external terminator on the SCSI port on the back of your machine. When you plug a ZIP drive in, tho, you're adding a cable for the signals to bounce in - so turn on the ZIP drives termination (it's a switch on the back of the drive).
IDE is a different type of bus. It does not require termination. It does, however, require that a proper master-slave setup be done in the drives. As to your internal hard drive not showing up on your desktop... Your mac is booting from that drive? If so, it must be there somewhere! Try rebuilding your desktop; maybe the drive's icon has been hozed. Another possibility is that you've accidentally moved the icon off-screen; click on the desktop (not in a window) then try Clean Up or Arrange, from the Finder's View menu. HTH, - Dan.
