After using dialup for a long while we moved to ADSL this year and will never return. It was costing us more in re-dialling after each dropout than the connection fee. The local telco in australia flogs dialup as being ok but when people complain about speed and dropouts, they say that they dont guarantee it for data because the lines were only supposed to be for voice anyway......
We have 4 macs and 2 pc's on our house network and all share the broadband through a netcomm router/firewall/modem. Great for a family with 4 teenagers and another nearly so. It was easy to set up and you can have it on your house phone line by installing a phone filter that that allows some fragment of the line bandwidth to be used for the phone and the rest for the broadband. So, premanently-on internet and phone always available. In our case the only problem was waiting for the telco to upgrade the exchange to give us a broadband connection. Oh yes, and my understanding is that you have to be within a certain distance of the exchange to get ADSL.... 2km I think but dont quote me. Thankyou to all who replied to my question last week regarding my g3/233 that wont shut down. Ive tried everything suggested and still no luck, so still playing with it when I have time.
