Chris, try this site;
<http://www.zone6400.com/>
Great site for the 6400 and similar machines ...

Good guess ...
As Fredrick wrote; if internal modem card (Comm Slot II) is installed, the
modem port is disabled.

No NuBus slot in a 6400, called a Comm(unication) Slot II 28.8K modem

> can it work under Mac Os 8.6,

Sure, works from 7.x thru 9.x ... although it slows the the machine down.
The card does little of a real modem's work, sends everything to the CPU to
process.
I'd try going online w/the internal modem to see if everything was in place
and working, then ...

You can pull the Comm Slot II card (internal modem), then recable your US
Robotics modem to the external modem port. Make sure you've selected the
right modem script in the modem control panel.
Using your external US Robo will be a better way to go.

You might try Proxim.com, I think that's where Farallon went.
http://www.proxim.com/support/all/maccard/software/dl2001-09-10.html

Check under Extensions Manager for a Farallon extension to turn on.
Mine says *Farallon PCI-10* as it is a 10baseT card.

The time is prolly right to look to replace it. If you notice the
clock/calender starts changing, or the mouse slows down ...

HTH ... Jerry
