I'm running YellowDog Linux successfully on my 7500, but you can't just boot from a Linux CD without formatting your disk especially for the Linux install process. In the case of YDL, and probably other Linux distributions, you format the disk as "unallocated" then let the installer do the formatting. If you want to try YDL, go for version 2.2 as the current 2.3 version generally doesn't work on "old world" Powermacs. I found a YDL 2.2 CD on ebay for $5 US. While in Linux, I can boot MacOS in it's own window using MOL (Mac-on-Linux) and switch back and forth as easily as moving between any other windows. It's pretty darn neat.
